For example, if someone hits a tennis ball to an opponent, and I snap a photo right before the opponent hits the ball, does it show up clear and still on their racquet?

    Your biggest challenge will be shutter lag. The time it takes from when you press the shutter release to when the camera actually takes the picture. This is a problem with all point and shoot cameras. Other than that if you set your shutter speed high enough (1/250th or more) it will.
    The only cameras that have no shutter lag are SLR’s. Price for an entry level Rebel XS is not much more than the G10.

    It will if you choose shutter priority and a speed of 1/250th of a second or higher. 1/250th is appropriate if the ball is coming directly toward or away from you. You may have to go up to 1/1000th of a second if the ball is moving parallel to the viewfinder.
