This camera is great, but I really can’t find the black and white feature. I know I’m missing something. Can anybody explain it to me step by step?

also suggest taking colour snapshot as well or instead, allowing option to discolor later in photoshop or camera software,

If it turns out that your Sony does not have the “black and white” feature then may I suggest that you turn your image to b&w in your favorite photo editor. (Find your desaturation and/or greyscale option in the software and you are there.)
With digital I always photograph in color; I can always turn a color image to b&w later. Turning a b&w to color is far more difficult!
