I wanted to know if I should bring it in to Best Buy to repair or go to a canon location…

I think your best bet is to bring it to Canon, but don’t get your expectations too high as this might be a costly repair.
You are right drops are not covered by the warranty and last time I tried to get service on a dropped Canon s410, they were asking for over 200$ so I decided to fix it myself (not recommended unless you have some technical expertise) and succeeded.

Take it to Canon if you can and explain your situation very nicely and they might do it for free. If they charge you for the repair, by the sounds of your explanation of the problem it shouldn’t be too much.
