Motion

It may seem obvious but never having a moving object in your photograph if you a trying to capture a still object. If there is a moving object while you are attempting to photograph a still object it will cause a blur in the background and distract from the object you were trying to capture.

Horizon Line

Quick one but never put an horizon line in the middle of your frame. Get Near Your Subject A very common mistake of many novice photographers is to stand to far away from the subject matter of their photograph. You need to get close and personal with your subject matter. It will really make for a more interesting photograph.

Shutter Lag Problems

In cheaper and mid price digital cameras you may notice it can take up to or more than a second from when you press the button to the camera actually snapping the picture. The thing you were taking a picture of may of modified in some undesirable way. If you have a camera like this then you have to be aware of the situation and take a press that button a second before you actually want to take the picture.
