What mode are you shooting in? What light condition? The picture you shown is taken outdoor with the help of cloud-covered sunlight which is enough for your camera to take a picture with fast shutter speed. This is one of the most important factor in reducing motion blur.
The other thing, use sports mode. Usually this would be effective to freeze action like this, given there’s enough light of course.
Finally, if you zoom in that picture, you will see that there’s a slight motion blur especially on the girl’s feet. If this photo was taken under direct sunlight, there may not be any blur at all.
Its simple, in order to freeze pictures you have to use high shutter speed. If you are using an “auto” setting on your camera then the programme chooses a randam setting according to the light available. So, just go onto manual mode and use a shutter speed that is higher than 1/250 sec. your subject will be frozen…good luck
Nice camera and having Image Stabilization is good because shooting at arms length can introduce camera movement (no viewfinder on your camera) … but unfortunately it has no aperture or shutter speed priority mode or even manual control over either.
If this is one of the styles you wish to pursue in your photography, you will want to look for a camera with more control when you eventually buy a new camera … in a few years. Buy then there may be more compact digital cameras that have the features you need.
At present, only DSLR cameras have these features and they are much, much larger than your current camera.
Here is a list of the few cameras that are currently made that have some of the features you need.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_…
