    You spent good money to buy a good camera yet you are not shooting using it at its highest resolution? If you wanted a VGA camera you could have bought a $50 toy. With the cost of memory cards being so low, buy a couple of 2 GB cards and shoot at its highest resolution (3072 x 2304 pixels)
    You are only using 0.3 mp when you shoot in the VGA mode (640×480 pixels). Most cell phones use more pixels.
    Have you tried making an 8×10 inch print from your VGA image files? Even a 4×6 inch print? Make one of each with your old VGA file and from one of your new files shot at full resolution and you will see the huge difference.
    If you still want to shoot your fine camera at such a low resolution, call the Sony help line and they will help you
