Can the camera be powered by a AC adapter? If this works, then the problem is likely with the battery. You mentioned that the warranty had expired, so that you may have this camera for some time. If you have the same problem when the camera is powered directly using the AC adapter, then the problem would be with the camera itself.

Did you charge the battery for the prescribed amount of time? are the battery terminals dirty or damaged? is there dirt of grease on the on switch?.
If the camera had been working and non of the above work take it back to where you purchased it from if it’s still under warranty before you do anything else.
