   You need three things in order to be successful shooting your horses (or any action photos).
   1) a good DSLR with telephoto lens (P&S cameras have too much shutter lag to catch images at the peak of action)
   2) some advanced computer skills with at least Photoshop Elements installed on it.
   3) at least one class in photography so you can at least learn the basics of photography.
