   about 250 or so on a 1 gb card

   Nope, is big heavy, get the canon G5, cost nearly the same, but perform alot better and much higher resale value.

   The Sony W55 is an ok camera, but when you’re spending about $200- you can probably do better in buying the Canon A630. Will give you an excellent 8X10 print. 4X optical zoom, 8 megapixels, above average battery life and has manual controls in addition to auto. According to Website dpreview.com J&R Music has it for $187+ shipping
   A 1GB card at 8 megapixels will give you about 250 shots.
   The more megapixels the more memory you’ll need for your memory card. To be on safe side any camera with 8 megapixels I’d get a 2GB card.
