i like the nikon d40 because of the sports mode but i dont really want to spend that much money right now

    It’s a good camera, but I would not say it is good for sports. First, its burst mode isn’t that fast – only 1.5 frames per second. Also, the “Sports Mode” setting increases the ISO and introduces more noise into the image. Another issue is manual focus. To manually focus the camera (which can be useful when shooting through a fence), you have to hold down the MF button on the lens barrel while pressing on the direction pad/button on the back of the camera. It’s a real pain and time-consuming. However, the 12X zoom lens could definitely come in handy.
    If you are serious about sports photography, I suggest you bite the bullet and spend more money on an SLR camera and some good lenses.
