I have a canon powershot SD1000. I would like to make a video of myself singing for say 3 minutes and post it on youtube. Can i do this with my canon powershot sd1000 camera? If so, how do i do it? Thanks.

    Yes, you can record movies. Check your user’s manual for specific instructions, but essentially all you have to do is turn it to the movie mode (symbol looks like an old video camera) and press the button you normally press to take a picture to start recording. On top of that though, there are some additional considerations:
    1) Movie quality: This affects how large the movie file will be as well as how it looks. Check out the advanced user guide (Link 1), and look at page 39 (page 41 of the PDF file) for more information on the limits of the different movie modes.
    2) Memory card: You need to make sure you have a high enough capacity to record the movie. To check the amount of video you can record, see Link 2. The largest SD card you can use in the camera is a 4GB SD card, and it appears you’ll need probably a 1 or 2GB card if you plan on shooting a high-quality movie.
    Just as a forewarning- the sound recording on these movies is often dismal at best, so if you’re posting it to show off how good you are, I might consider using a dedicated video camera. I just have some doubt that the picture and sound quality of the movie will be enough to do you any good, so keep that in mind as well.
