this is a camera for very beginers. if you are a occasional user, this is an OK camera for you. I took this thing to take pictures in a wedding, after taking 15-17 pictures, the unit started to hit up, flash was sucking up all the battery juice.

It looks great on paper – wide angle Leica lens, 10x zoom, 8. 1MP, wide screen modes, image stabilization. What a disappointment though.
1. Pictures come out grainy (noisy). And it is VERY obvious; you don’t have to use a magnifier to see it.
2. Bad performance in low light.
3. The camera stopped working within minutes of receiving it. Kept displaying message “shutdown camera and start it again” – but to no avail.
4. Somewhat bulky for a compact.
I’ll stick with Canon thank you.

I purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S in late December 2008. I took the camera to New Zealand for what I thought would be a great vacation. The camera stopped working on the second day of the Milford trek. The camera did not get wet. It was in our waterproof gear and nothing else got wet that was in the same area. Instead, it seems that the humidity was too much for it to handle. At first we got a card read error, tried a different card, got the same error, then tried to use the internal memory on the camera, but it started flashing different error messages then went kaput.
I would not recommend any one buy this camera! Unless, of course, you want your vacation ruined. I would not recommend any one buy a camera from Amazon because of their 30 day return policy.

I own a Panasonic LZ3 5MP far superior to the TZ4S. So I thought I would upgrade to 8MP and 10optical zoom instead of the 6X optical zoom. I will definitely return this camera. Ugh! Like the earlier reviewer said great stats poor camera. Controls are a little sharp with rough edges for starters. Secondly, the offset placement of the lens leaves no room to place your fingers to steady the camera. Forget the other reviews and this camera as it is very poor. Leica lens you say. . if you have to put your fingers over it to steady camera where is the rub. . .
