I live in Indonesia, and the only place to get this camera is via an internet shop, where it costs about 1 200.-$ which seems to be so much more than on other internet shops abroad. Is it worth that price ? Thank you for helping me !

It gets great reviews but that price is insane. It only costs $800 in the USA.

Even for $800, I wouldn’t get the R1 myself however. For the same price I’d get a Nikon D50 with the Nikon 18-70mm lens.
For all the great features of the R1, it’s still just a point & shoot. It uses an electronic viewfinder for example. This means that what you see in the viewfinder, actually happened 1/10th second ago. So when you press the shutter button, you’re too late. You will have a terrible time with the R1 with candids and action shots.
The Nikon D50 is a digital SLR camera. It’s responsive. Fast. The down side of the D50 is that you get less megapixels (6 MP vs. 10 MP on the Sony), and with the lens I suggested, you have a tiny bit less range. The Nikon 18-70 lens actually behaves like 27-105mm on digital Nikon bodies, vs. the Sony R1 which has a 24-120mm lens.
I tell you this, because I used a high-end pont & shoot camera myself for two years, and became so frustrated by the limitations that I upgraded to a dSLR anyway.
I have a Cyber-shot 4.1 megapixels, which I love. The quality of the photos is pretty good, although that’s all a function of the photographer in many cases! It doesn’t seem to eat batteries too much, either.
Based on my experience with Sony products, I would probably buy the R1 if I were in the market for a new camera. I looked for it on line and you can get one for as low as $650.

The R1 tries to bridge the gap between a digicam and a DSLR, and I think you pretty much get the worst of both worlds. The image quality is quite good- but you’ve got a limited zoom range and no interchangeable lens options. it’s also no lightweight (it’s pretty big).
I’m pretty sure that this camera is being discontinued.
If you want a DSLR- there are many good options, that are better than the R1. If you want a compact digicam- then get one. If you want this camera- well, it’s the only one like it. DSLR performance with video capability and real time EVF.
