I am contemplating buying a nicer camera. I have a Canon PowerShot a610 which unfortunately broke after 2 yrs of use (my fault). I had an extended warranty that covered the dropped camera, but unfortunately the camera that they sent as a replacement is an PowerShot a560 which feels cheap and does not have the nice swivel viewfinder. So I was going to sell that one and want to buy something nicer.
I picked the a610 because it had good reviews, had little delay in taking pictures and (for the time) great battery life. I am no camera pro ie aperture and exposure are things I would prefer the camera figure out for me. I take photos indoors and outdoors, but will be visiting the southwest a lot in the future so probably more outdoors. Any brand is fine, but I’d like to stay under $600.
Thanks!

Given your experience with the 610, I would suuggest you stay with Canon, an the buttons and menu’s will all be familiar to you.
The A650IS is the newer version of the A610, and has the added benefit of Image Stabilization (IS) to help remove the hand shake that can cause blurry photos.
If you want to move up to something with more zoom, take a look at the Canon S5 IS, which is a bit bigger, but has the swivel screen and a great 12X zoom, which will be useful for your outdoor photography.
