I’m looking into buying this camera, but so far I have ever only used rechargeable AA batteries in my cameras. I have a zillion of them and always have the option to have new batteries on hand. If I get this camera, I’ll only have the one battery, and that worries me. What’s the battery life like?
Thanks!

Typical battery life of a Lithium Ion battery
No flash, no LCD screen = 500 shots (+/- 50)
25% flash, 50% screen = 400 shots
50% flash, 100% screen 350 shots
100% flash, 100% screen = 250 shots
as you can see flash is the biggest draw on the battery, with screen being second. by keeping your flash to a minimal (or using external flash with it’s own batteries) you’ll get decent # of shots (400-500)
The Powershot G9 uses the same small battery as the G7, and it’s rated at around 220 shots. So, you should expect a similar battery life with the G9.
You could buy a spare if you are concerned about running out of power.
Or to increase battery life, you should turn off the LCD in between shots, and also limit the use of the flash, zoom and shooting of movies.
