It’s a nice camera, but the Panasonic Lumix FX55 is slightly better, particularly in terms of optical quality (less barrel distortion, corner sharpness falloff and chromatic aberrations), and otherwise offering just about the same as the Canon SD870, but at a lower price.

My opinion is that it’s a fine camera for what it is. Personally, if I was going to buy a camera like that one, I’d compare it to the SD850 IS, which doesn’t go QUITE as wide angle, but zooms out a lot more. I find that end of the range more interesting and more useful. That’s just me, though.

It’s a very nice camera in my opinion. unlike most digital point-and-shoot cameras that have a 35mm lense, this one has a 28mm lense that’s wider and can squeeze more people or landscaping in a picture. and the zoom on it is not bad. the digital zoom is usually fuzzy, however i have taken pictures with the digital zoom and they come out clear. also, the total zoom is 15x while the SD850 is just 16x total. there’s only about a 10ft difference. and i am a 870 owner, however i don’t know what you’re talking about when you say “time and photo stamping”. sorry about that. and if you’re wondering about the shutter of the 870, it can take a picture in 15-1/1600 sec. is what i says on the website. i dont have a clue to what it means either but to me it takes pictures quickly. just as long as you keep pressing the shutter botton. i hoped i helped!!http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro…http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/ExpandedM…
this link are the reviews that circuit city got for the SD870. i think that this will also help on your decision to purchase the SD870 or not.
